Blattner Energy Partners with Loaves and Fishes for Inaugural Event to Meet Homeless Individuals’ Basic Needs
Blattner Energy, a power generation contractor and leading provider of renewable energy construction in North America, partnered with local nonprofit Loaves and Fishes of Minneapolis for an inaugural event in which Blattner Energy employees packed 2,000 basic needs kits to be distributed to homeless individuals throughout the Twin Cities.
More than 300 Blattner Energy employees and their significant others participated in the 2-hour event in conjunction with Loaves and Fishes, a non-profit meal program that has been serving Minnesotans for more than 32 years. Loaves and Fishes will distribute the 2,000 kits to homeless clientele at their various dining sites throughout January and February. The kits contain much-needed tools and resources, including
- A duffel bag
- Sock and gloves
- Eating utensils, including a can opener for opening canned food distributed at food shelves
- Flashlight and batteries
- Candle and matchbook
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and washcloth
- Miscellaneous food items
The event took place as part of Blattner Energy’s annual, company-wide leadership and development conference. Each year, the company partners with a local organization to create an opportunity for its employees and their significant others to give back to the community.
“Giving back and helping to ensure that our neighbors’ needs are met is everyone’s responsibility,” said Scott Blattner, president, Blattner Energy. “We were honored to partner with an organization like Loaves and Fishes to make an impact right here in our local community.”
“Only when basic needs for food, dignity and respect are met can individuals move toward independence,” said Cathy Maes, executive director, Loaves and Fishes. “These kits will serve as a resource for meeting many of those needs, and we are grateful for the support of Blattner Energy to help us kick off this program.”
