Energy Storage Project
20-MW Energy Storage System
Blattner Energy constructed a 20-megawatt energy storage system in the Midwest that provides frequency regulation support for customers of PJM Interconnection, the largest regional transmission organization in the U.S. The cutting-edge storage technology includes 2.5 MW of LG Chem lithium-ion batteries as well as four 5 MW inverters and eight 2.5 MW step-up transformers.
The project owner selected Blattner Energy as EPC contractor because of Blattner’s demonstrated expertise in project management and ability to take emerging technologies and challenging assignments from concept to completion.
As the EPC contractor, Blattner Energy was responsible for engineering the energy storage system, procuring the technology and equipment, the installation and interconnection of the system technology, as well as completing the testing and start-up activities. Blattner completed the system before its deadline, within budget and without a single safety incident.
